Join us for a multi-generational potluck of the LGBTQIA2+ Allies Qmmunity of the greater Austin area.
While our main focus is ages 18-110 this is a family friendly event we just request that any minors attend with their guardian.
Feel free to bring a homemade dish, store bought treat, or just you to gather and celebrate our GAYMAZING Qmmunity.
This is a sober event, and we appreciate your cooperation.
SAGE Table is a national project created by SAGE, the country's oldest and most known agency providing advocacy and resources to the older adult LGBTQIA2+ Qmmunity.
Info about SAGE Table:
Loneliness and social isolation threaten everyone as we age—but they’re more likely to be problems for LGBTQ+ older adults.
Older people who are LGBTQ+ are:
2x as likely to be single and live alone
4x less likely to have children to care for them
Older LGBTQ+ people have additional barriers that reinforce isolation:
2 in 5 feel disconnected from the younger LGBTQ+ community
9 in 10 expect healthcare providers to discriminate against them
Through SAGE Table, we can reach out—person by person, community by community—to connect with one another. Together, we can build our own, real-life social network to support our LGBTQ+ elders.
Accessibility:
All Rainbow Connections ATX events are free, near parking & public transportation, and ADA compliant.

LGBTQIA2+ Advance Directives Workshop
FREE ADVANCE DIRECTIVES WORKSHOP
For Austin Area LGBTQIA2+ People Ages 18-110
From Family Eldercare Workshop Leaders:
Cheryl Young, Senior Director of Well-Being
Ana Mitchell Cordova, Guardianship Staff Attorney
World Famous *BOB*, Program Coordinator of Rainbow Connections ATX a program of Family Eldercare
If you are 18+ and LGBTQIA2+ and haven't taken care of your Advance Directives or you have but have questions THIS event IS FOR YOU!
Our presenters have years of experience and we want you to feel confident about your wishes.
A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK.. they're too young, it's too morbid to think about, I'll do it later....why not come and take advantage of being able to ask a lawyer for free any questions you may have about these documents!
Take notes ~ get the forms ~ do as little or as much as you'd like but start.
What are Advance Directives?
Advance directives are legal documents that provide instructions for medical care and only go into effect if you cannot communicate your own wishes.
The two most common advance directives for health care are the living will and the durable power of attorney for health care.
Living will: A living will is a legal document that tells doctors how you want to be treated if you cannot make your own decisions about emergency treatment. In a living will, you can say which common medical treatments or care you would want, which ones you would want to avoid, and under which conditions each of your choices applies. Learn more about preparing a living will.
Durable power of attorney for health care: A durable power of attorney for health care is a legal document that names your health care proxy, a person who can make health care decisions for you if you are unable to communicate these yourself. Your proxy, also known as a representative, surrogate, or agent, should be familiar with your values and wishes. A proxy can be chosen in addition to or instead of a living will. Having a health care proxy helps you plan for situations that cannot be foreseen, such as a serious car accident or stroke. Learn more about choosing a health care proxy.
Think of your advance directives as living documents that you review at least once each year and update if a major life event occurs such as retirement, moving out of state, or a significant change in your health.

Visualizing the Environment Ansel Adams and His Legacy
August 31, 2024 - February 2, 2025
Photographs by American landscape photographer Ansel Adams (1902–1984) remain some of the most immediately recognizable environmental images of our time. Visualizing the Environment: Ansel Adams and His Legacy showcases some of these iconic works by Adams alongside those of his predecessors and the generations of artists he influenced and inspired.
Adams put it this way: “The first step toward visualization—and hence toward expressive interpretation—is to become aware of the world around us in terms of the photographic image.”
Adams’ photographs have inspired environmental consciousness in many. But many of those influenced by Adams have chosen to photograph exactly what he left out of his visualizations: our impact on the natural environment.
This exhibition was curated by Dr. Steven D. Hoelscher, Faculty Curator for Photography, Harry Ransom Center, and Stiles Professor of American Studies and Geography

A Queer and Pleasant Danger
The inspiring true story of a nice Jewish boy who left the Church of Scientology to become the lovely lady she is today.

ZOOM link of Fall Queer Book Club Tea Social will be given to those registered.
*(it will be over Zoom - BYOT ~ Bring Your Own Tea!)

Book Details
In the early 1970s, a boy from a Conservative Jewish family joined the Church of Scientology. In 1981, that boy officially left the movement and ultimately transitioned into a woman. A few years later, she stopped calling herself a woman--and became a famous gender outlaw.
Gender theorist, performance artist, and author Kate Bornstein is set to change lives with her stunningly original memoir. Wickedly funny and disarmingly honest, this is Bornstein's most intimate book yet, encompassing her early childhood and adolescence, college at Brown, a life in the theater, three marriages and fatherhood, the Scientology hierarchy, transsexual life, LGBTQ politics, and life on the road as a sought-after speaker.
Our Fall Queer Book Club Tea Social Selection was chosen by Ruby.
Copies both in print and audiobooks can be borrowed for Austin Public Library.

Bat Viewing at Sundown! *New date*
Details
When was the last time you went to see the bats fly out from under the S. Congress Ave. bridge?
Did you move here recently and have never been?
JOIN US!
Saturday, August 24th 7:30pm-9pm *(sunsets at 8:01pm ~ they come out right at dusk or once dark usually)
Texas reigns supreme for bat viewing.
It boasts the world's largest urban bat colony. Austin, the “bat capital of the United States,” is famous for its bridge-dwelling bats; 1.5 million free-tailed bats live in crevices under the Congress Avenue Bridge.
Facts About Bats in Austin:
Austin's resident bats are Mexican free-tailed bats, which migrate each spring from central Mexico to various roosts all over the southwestern U.S. On their nightly flights the bats eat anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects, including mosquitoes and harmful agricultural pests.
Details:
Viewing is free from the Austin American-Statesman’s Bat Observation Area on the southeast side of Congress Avenue.
However, there is a fee for parking in the lot near the viewing area — see www.statesman.com/Austin-Bat-FAQs for details.
Wanna take public transportation? https://www.capmetro.org/plan/schedmap
Accessibility: the grass viewing area is slightly sloped and the trail under the bridge could be difficult for a walker as it's not paved.
This is a family friendly event ~ look for us with our rainbow :)
All minors must be accompanied by their guardian.
